Education Center
|
The Education Center will be a state-of-the-art facility and the first public LEED Platinum building in the Salt Lake Valley. It will serve as a working model of several environmentally-sustainable building practices, including solar panels, and an innovative heating and cooling system that make the building more efficient and augment the educational purposes of the building and Garden.
This building will also function as the main entrance to the Conservation Garden Park, serve as a visitor center, include education facilities for up to 200 people, and accommodate large crowds during events. Designed to function as an onsite learning center with a variety of classes and seminars for people of all ages, this will become a venue and destination for the Greater Salt Lake community to learn about waterwise principles and practices as well as the important nexus between water and energy conservation.
The Education Center will provide office space for conservation staff, a classroom for waterwise landscape classes and workshops, a gift shop to raise funds for future conservation efforts and garden maintenance costs, and a central reception area for the Garden. The new classroom will accommodate approximately 180 individuals, far exceeding current capacity. Because the Education Center will be located in the Garden, it will be much easier for conservation staff and class instructors to offer Garden tours in conjunction with classes.
