10. Turf Tips

Interpretive Intent: Different types of turf grasses have dramatically different water requirements. Further complicating the lawn choice for a homeowner are the different textures, colors and seasonal habits of different grasses. Cool season grasses have the deep rich green color generally associated with lawns, but can be very high water users and are not acclimated to desert heat. Warm season grasses do better in the heat, but turn brown and go dormant in the winter.

Exhibit Design: 8' x 24' squares of different types of lawn grasses line the pathway, each irrigated separately, and each with a large graphic percentage sign comparing the amount of water applied to each type in the past month to keep the lawn healthy.
