19. Backyard Makeover

Interpretive Intent: The best example of a retrofitted landscape is shown with this exhibit. Utilizing the exact same size yards, this display shows a standard yard with an extremely thirsty lawn sitting adjacent to a yard that has been retrofitted to a beautiful drought tolerant landscape. Water comparison charts will show how significant the water savings can be.

Exhibit Design: The final design has plants that block or allow views, trees for blocking the summer sun, barriers for privacy, and other functional uses identified in the site analysis. The program elements identified in the design process are shown in this exhibit as well, such as a patio area, a turf area for play, a play house, and a tiled barbeque area.
