1. Survey First

Interpretive Intent: Before you can effectively plan to retrofit your landscape, you need to know what you have and where it is located. Survey your property using a grid method – measuring distances along a line and offsets from it, then transfer these measurements onto graph paper.

Exhibit Design: 3 inch wide aluminum edging extends lines from the path into the lawn creating a grid landscape and 2 1/2 foot tall graphic numbers imbedded into the path and lawn areas show scale. Measurement markings transition from feet to yards as they cross from the path into the landscape . Dimensions to a tree growing in the lawn will show how to measure to existing objects. Signage explains how to scale your yard and draw a plan locating existing trees and shrubs as well as concrete pads, fences and other constructed items.
